Understanding ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental conditions that affects a person’s ability to maintain attention and concentration, especially on non-preferred tasks. It can also affect a person’s activity level, ability to manage impulses, ability to maintain organization, as well as other skills a person needs in order to effectively plan, focus, and manage tasks.
There are different types of ADHD
Predominantly inattentive presentation may include:
difficulty with staying focused on tasks or conversations
trouble following through with activities, tasks, or schoolwork
trouble organizing school, work, or household responsibilites
trouble remembering appointments, belongings, or assignments
difficulty avoiding distractions
trouble paying attention to details
difficulty completing certain tasks
frequently losing things
Predominantly Hyperactive/Impulsive
presentation may include:
fidgeting
feelings of restlessness
excessive talking
interrupting or blurting out answers
difficulty awaiting turns
acting before thinking out consequences
feelings of needing to be constantly on the go
Combined Presentation
Includes significant symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
